[She...hugged it. Shinzon blinks, and looks down at the thing against his chest again before slowly closing his hand around the back of its head.]

No, it doesn't. [She smirks a little.] Does it need one?

[She glances at the bear with fondness.]

This bear was a good friend to me when I was a child. I used to play with it and hold onto it when I slept.

[Kahlan looks back up at Shinzon.]

I don't expect you to understand, but I wanted to do something nice for you and give you something you probably never had growing up.

[Of course it needed a purpose. He frowned and let his arm drop, still holding the bear.] An inanimate object is not a friend. [Shouldn't she know that?]

[She outright grinned at that.] No, I suppose it's not. Not a real life friend anyway. But I did tell it secrets every now and then. I knew he'd never tell.

[She made no sense sometimes. Shinzon just stared, looking down at the bear with a frown.] I don't need it.

[She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.]

Do you have to need it to keep it?

[Well. Yes, but he didn't think she'd understand that. Shinzon looked down at the bear again before looking up at her. He tried vainly to hold it out again.] You make it sound more useful to you.

I admit it does have some sentimental value.

[But despite all that, she pushed his hand aside and refused to take it.]

Shinzon, please, just accept the gift. You don't have to keep it if you don't want to, but I won't take it back.

[His arm dropped, hand tightening around the teddy bear's head. Justa little. Mindful of all those little stitchings.]

What do I do with it?

I'm afraid I can't answer that for you. What you do with it is your decision.

[He made a 'tch' sound in the back of his throat, but it was half hearted. He sure as hell wasn't going to tell it SECRETS.]

[The corner of her mouth wanted to curve into a smile, but she suppressed it. Instead she clasped her hands in front of her.]

So. Is it safe to assume we're on speaking terms again?

[Good. No laughing at him allowed. His lip curled in a half sneer.] We are speaking, aren't we?

Yes, but how long with that last? [She was referring of course to the fact that he seems to have a habit of getting angry with her and giving her the silent treatment.]

For as long as necessary. [He pursed his lips a moment before looking away.] I want to go to the pub.

I'll assume there was a 'please' in that request. [Dry statement is dry.] I can take you there now if that's what you'd prefer.

[He lifted his chin, lips thining as they pressed together. That look spoke worlds; he was a Praetor, not a child.] Alone, [he stipulated.] Just unlock the door.

[The look on her face equaled that of his. She was the Mother Confessor and not to be trifled with.] And what will you do if I say no?

[Sounds like an impasse.] Find someone who won't.

[He lifts his chin a little, vaguely nodding.] Thank you.
