[Shinzon is not happy. Not happy at all. He's in a lot of pain, but he is really accustomed to fighting bodily agony, so the only emotion he's sending out is rage.]

Where is he?

[For all those poor schmucks in the infirmary, Shinzon is puling off whatever bandages he has around his neck, intent on getting the hell out of there.]

Are you all right? [She's taken a light hold of his arm to help keep him balanced. She hoped he be well enough to walk.]

Fine. [His voice was clipped, and he reached a hand up to run over his head, half expecting to feel veins raised from his skin.]

[Kahlan didn't reply, she just gave Shinzon a look and started leading him out of the Infirmary.]

[It certainly FELT like his body was trying to fall apart, but he could see no outward signs. His hands looked normal, his head felt normal. So he ignored that look and managed to walk out mostly solid on his feet - and mostly glad that his room wasn't very far at all.]

[Kahlan was glad too. It was slow going but she got him to his room without much interference from any of the Infirmary staff. Though, she imagine she'd get an earful from Dr. McCoy later.]

[Once there, Shinzon sank to his bed - stiffly, though. This was a pain he'd grown used to hiding around all but his most trusted; Vruk was the one he'd allowed to see at his worst.]

Thank you, [He managed to grate out.]

You're welcome. [She smiled kindly, the she looked around the room wondering if she should go or stay.] Is there anything you need?

No, [he said, shifting slowly. He could control this pain. It was nothing, and he planned to keep telling himself that until it felt true. A swift glance was shot toward Kahlan.]

Will you stay? [He hadn't really meant to say that.]

Of course, if that's what you want. I'll stay. [She didn't exactly feel good about leaving him on his own right now anyway. He had just been murdered after all.]

[Thanking her again is asking a little much; he nods gestures toward his desk chair with his chin, moving slowly and stiffly to find some level of comfort on the bed.]

[She took the hint and brought the desk chair over to sit by the side of his bed. She felt a little awkward and didn't quite know what to say.]

[Shinzon ran a hand over his head again, vaguely recalling the blow that killed him, the start of his head separating from his body.]

Do I appear normal? [He spoke abruptly, still likening the death toll to his cellular breakdown.]

[Well, that was an unexpected question.] Yes, you look the same as you usually do. Why?

[He stopped running that hand over his head and let it drop.] It's unimportant. [So long as his veins weren't making a vain attempt to escape his skull.]

Clearly, it is, Shinzon. Please, tell me what you meant. [She wasn't going to pressure him if he didn't want to tell her, but she figured she ought to try to get an answer out of him.]

[He was silent, for a moment debating whether or not to answer. He leaned back, resting against the wall.]

When I was killed, it was a - [he wasn't sure he liked how this sounded] - mercy of sorts. I was already dying.

[She thinks he's taking about his recent murder.] But you weren't dying. Didn't the doctor's device confirm that for you?

[He frowns briefly before wavinga vague hand.] Not here. On the Scimitar.

I see. [She didn't have his file on hand and she couldn't recall the details of all that, so she asked,] Why were you dying?

I am a clone. [He pressed his lips together and shifted to lay down, moving gingerly.] A failed experiment. My cellular structure was breaking down.

[Kahlan had no idea what any of that meant.] How is that possible?

I was made to age rapidly at the press of a button, so that I would replace the man I was cloned from. At thirty, that button should have been hit; when it was not, my body broke down, incapable of sustaining it.[His voice was tense and terse, but he made the effort to sound detached.]

I was falling apart. My organs would have started failing catastrophically.

[She didn't reply. Really what could you add to that anyway? She just nodded and let him know she'd listen.]

It had an affect on my appearance. And it felt something like this. [He shifted on the bed, one hand holding his stomach, the other resisting the urge to touch his neck.]
