[Shinzon is not happy. Not happy at all. He's in a lot of pain, but he is really accustomed to fighting bodily agony, so the only emotion he's sending out is rage.]

Where is he?

[For all those poor schmucks in the infirmary, Shinzon is puling off whatever bandages he has around his neck, intent on getting the hell out of there.]

No, I'm not going to do that. Despite what you may think, you need to rest while you recover.

I don't need rest! [Shinzon? Strapped to the bed. And now fighting them, because this is unacceptable as far as he's concerned. It doesn't help that he's out of it.]

Stop! You'll hurt yourself even more. Is that what you want? [She puts a hand on his shoulder to try to get him to stop moving.]

I'm not hurt! [He stopped struggling, tense, and threw himself against the straps to lean closer to her, straining.] I do not want to be here. I do not need their help. Now tell them to release me!

No. [She crossed her arms.] You're not getting out of here until Dr. McCoy approves.

I don't need his approval, [Shinzon hissed.]

Maybe not, but you're staying and that's final.

[Shinzon sneered and rolled back into the bed, glowering at the ceiling.] You shouldn't have brought me back.

Why not? [She asked this rather dryly and with an arched eyebrow.]

[Shinzon has elected to be a jerk. And isn't answering.]

[She mutters something about him acting like a child.]

What kind of warden would I be if I didn't bring you back?

A sensible one.

[She scoffed at that.]

Believe it or not, but I consider you to be a friend, albeit a bad-tempered and easily angered one.

[That certainly gave him pause. Shinzon looked at her slowly, uncertain. His friends had been those men he trusted as his underlings. The only person he'd ever confided in had been Vruk.]

A friend? [He was looking for some sign that she was bullshitting him.]

Yes. [She shrugged and half-smiled.] I've told you more about myself [*cough*nottomentionsleptwith*cough*] than anyone else on this ship. I think that entitles you to be called a friend.

[He shifted for a moment, then leaned toward her again, slowly.] Then be a friend to me, Kahlan. I don't want to be here.

[She rolled her eyes.] Being your friend doesn't mean I'm going to go along with everything you ask of me. You're staying. For at least a day.

[Shinzon grit his teeth, almost baring them.] I don't need to be poked and prodded while I recover, Kahlan. I'll be better off in my quarters. Just listen to me!

And what's to stop you from going after Alastair instead of resting as you should be? Aside from me locking you in your cabin.

I can't get at him in a Level 0 cell, [he said tightly.]

Just stay here for a day and then I'll see about taking you back to your cabin.

And if I disagree, the doctors will keep me sedated until they discharge me. [He stared at the ceiling again, tight lipped.]

I you behave yourself, there won't be a need to sedate you.

[He ignored her in favor of pulling against the restraints again.]

Shinzon, please stop. [Once again she moves to keep him still, but this time she uses both hands on his shoulders.] You're not making it any better.
